With the guidance of my spiritual directors and thoughtful reading, I became so much more aware of myself. I also learned how much “garbage” I had inherited from the past and from my cultural milieu. My readings about being assertive helped me to reclaim my inner child who was crying for attention. Given my upbringing, I thought I must hide my light for others to shine. My education, and particularly my avid reading, told me to embrace that stage of my life and become the person I wanted to be at the core of my being. I began to let myself look to and wonder what would be the result.
It made me a better person. It made me join in the discussions and no longer doubt my God-given ability. I learned that I am unique and was made to do something different in this world. I was not a shy or nervous young man any longer. I reclaimed my true self. In the words of Marriane Williamson, I didn’t allow my light to frighten me again but to let it shine. I wasn’t going to shrink any longer. I was meant to shine. This was all due to my education, the guidance from my mentors and an avid quest to read more and more.
HopE Ghana concentrates on educating the needy, underprivileged, marginalized children for this very purpose. I believe that education is empowering. Education makes these children better citizens and individuals; it engenders a commitment to give back and to ‘pay it forward,” to help those who follow behind to have the same opportunities. Education gives life to a person—a life that prepares them to live a better quality of life. It also presupposes that students will receive the training to become employable in today’s sophisticated society and technological world. Education is the only tool that eradicates poverty and raises the standard of living for the masses. Providing the means to an education is what HopE Ghana strives to do. We are committed to giving young men, and women especially, the opportunity of education so that their lives, and those of their families and communities will be better off. Come therefore to team up with HopE Ghana and help brighten a life.
